Definition Of:

Split Step

Tennis GlossaryTennis Glossary
A brief pause with the feet usually used to stay light on the court and be able to change direction quickly. Similar to two feet down in hopscotch, remaining on the balls of the feet and timing the step with contact of your opponent hitting their shot. If you’re a more advanced player or playing someone who hits with a lot of pace, you may want to time the step slightly before your opponent makes contact with their shot.
